Shadybrook Farms

Our Farm

Growing Potatoes & Grain since 1957

Shadybrook Farms is a multigenerational farm located in Dover, Delaware. Shadybrook Farms is currently owned and operated by the 3rd and 4th generation of the Cartanza family, Paul Cartanza Jr and Taylor Cartanza. We grow a variety of potatoes and grains such as white potatoes, yellow potatoes, wheat, barley, corn, and soybeans. Agriculture is not only a passion for the Cartanza family, it is a way of life. We strive to make the late Philip Cartanza proud and continue his legacy of farming for many generations yet to come.

Our Story

Farm History

Philip Cartanza founded Shadybrook Farms in 1957. Prior to that time, "Phil" and his brothers worked on their family farm with their parents, growing tomatoes in New Jersey, upon immigrating from their homeland in Catanzaro, Italy. Phil came to Delaware in the 1950s and began buying land with a dream of starting his own farm. In 1957, Phil married Sandra Hufnal and started a family while making Phil's dream a reality. Phil and "Sandy" worked side by side for over 40 years building the Shadybrook Farms we know and love today. After Phil's passing, Sandy Cartanza and the next generation of family farmers continued Phil's legacy. The farm is now operated by Phil's grandson, Paul Cartanza Jr, and great granddaughter, Taylor Cartanza.
